Kinesin and dynein are two microtubule-based motor proteins, which play important roles in cellular cargo transportation, cell division and signal transduction. I will present our recent results on theoretical studies of the molecular mechanism of energy usage by these two motor proteins. I will discuss how energy is used efficiently but in different ways by these two motor proteins, which share the same track but "walk" in opposite directions. I will also describe some of our recent effort in developing multi-scale simulation methods and applying these methods to study large scale protein conformational changes.
